The reef is covered by a matting of ‘animal turf’ dominated by Bugula plumosa brushes and Molgula sp. The silts between the rocks are covered with slipper limpet shells and house bi-valve communities.

Continual monitoring and survey over the last twenty-four years pay testimony to the sites instability. On one occasion in 1990, structural elements were moved around the site causing considerable damage. Large detached timbers can be seen scattered around the reef.
